Choosing the Right BOP Diverter System

During drilling operations on surface platforms and jackup rigs, a diverter system is used to control shallow gas kicks. Whenever a kick is detected the system is energized to seal around drill pipe and divert it safely away from the wellhead.

The diverter system includes a blowout preventer connected in series above a spool having an annular piston. The piston moves upwardly, sequentially opening an outlet passage in the spool to fluid communication with a vent line.

Hydraulic Hose
